HOUSE 12
Claremont

About this project

Nestled in this beautiful tree lined street amongst an eclectic group of houses representing almost every decade of the last century, sits this contemporary home, exemplifying a new decade of residential architecture.

Strong, angular and simple in form, the building is sophisticated yet warm.  There is a strong visual connection to the street while maintaining a sense of intrigue and privacy.

From front to back, the indoor and outdoor living areas connect seamlessly, blurring the definition between internal and external.  The single blade wall of stabilised rammed earth provides the textural link that grounds the splayed polished plaster element hovering above in the tree canopy.

The client brief was for a house that would be elegant and contemporary, reflect their own interest in architecture and the arts and be a comfortable, functional and energy efficient home for their family of four.  It reflects their goals for long term sustainability, liveability, artistry and a textural, restrained and robust materiality.
